Franz Lohner’s Chronicle – A Message from Okri
Well, this is one of them red letter days. Literally, I mean, because I’ve had another missive from Okri in its usual natty red envelope. At least, I think I have. It’s hard to be certain of a letter’s provenance when you’ve never seen its author. Harder still when said letter shows up in a variety of unusual ways.

Okri - and let’s assume it is Okri, for the sake of sanity and wotnot - is an inventive soul. I’ve had letters sent down the chimney. Delivered by couriers of all shapes and sizes. Although that ogre had eaten half the envelope before I wrangled it off him, price of dying it in blood, I suppose. Carrier pigeon, that was another one. Bar... Read more

Heroes, grudge marks the spot! The Chaos Wastes was released right before the summer, and you have been exploring these unpredictable lands ever since. In this dev blog, you can find out more about the next addition to Chaos Wastes: the Grudge Mark Update.

The Grudge Mark Update is free to all players and will be released on October 28th on all platforms together with Geheimnisnacht.

Let’s begin In Chaos Wastes you start out with a low power level and as you move through the expeditions you become increasingly powerful. With this update, we want to give you something to hit that is more resistant to the heroes’ ever-increasing power in the Wastes.

GRUDGE MARKS THE SPOT "With the End Times approaching, Okri's grown concerned that a number of long-held grudges might go unfulfilled. Accordingly, he's taken the unusual step of asking the Ubersreik Five to settle accounts (as drengbarazi, they're as near to being honourary dwarfs as makes no differenc... Read more

Franz Lohner’s Chronicle – Wizardly Woes
Well, they do say no good deed goes unpunished.

You remember my mate Rosalinde, who helped me get the keep a bit more handy for the purposes of everything we do around here? Used her mastery of Light Magic to shuffle the stones around a bit? Ringing any bells?

Well, part of the agreement for her doing that was that once we’d actually nailed down something approaching a safe route up to the Citadel of Eternity, she’d be welcome to take a look for herself. Not out of any spiritual necessity, I hasten to add. Rosalinde’s always been of the view that she’ll leave the gods alone if they’ll do the same to her, and so far it seems to have worked out q... Franz Lohner’s Chronicle – The Pale Queen
It’s fair to say that Kerillian hasn’t been that chatty of late, even by her low standards, so it was something of a surprise when she stole into the main hall last night and made a play of warming herself by the fire. A clear invitation for a bit of a natter, if ever there was one.

I’m not saying she opened up all at once. No. Like always, she had an array of back-handed compliments and not-quite-threats ready and levelled, but you don’t last long in a life like mine without nurturing a thick skin, oh no. And humanitarian that I am (Olesya calls it ‘prying’, but she’s one to talk) I wasn’t about to leave Kerillian to whatever was eating her up. Last ti... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - Meterological Maunderings
Dear me, it’s got a bit funny outside. Weather just doesn’t know what it’s doing. Blazing hot one moment, pouring with rain the next. Olesya reckons it’s something to do with our little forays into the north - that we’ve upset the natural order of things. Well, insofar as there is any kind of natural order to be had wherever the Dark Gods’ beady little eyes latch onto the landscape. Natural ain’t exactly what they’re known for, if you catch my drift?
But much as I hate to admit it, perhaps the old baggage has got a point. Everything was just fine and dandy until Bardin tried to bring back some of those weapons from the Pilgrim’s Trail. Didn’t work... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - Contraptions
Bardin’s been back in the workshop again. How can I tell? Well, apart from all manner of clanking and hammering at all hours – not exactly conducive to me getting some much-needed beauty sleep – the mountainside’s increasingly strewn with all manner of failed experiments.

Of course, Bardin being Bardin, must of them are weapons, refinements on various designs he’s accumulated over the years. There are handguns, pistols, cog hammers – you know, the usual stuff – but there are also plenty of oddities and all. A self-loading longbow he whipped up for Kerillian. Went down like a lead airship, it did. An axe with some kind of whirring, mechanical teeth, which ... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - Forbidden History
Every day that passes, I’m learning more and more about the northlands. I mean, that ain’t to say I’m glad to be doing so – there are some pretty ghastly tales told up there, and no mistake – but they do say that knowledge is the true wealth of a life lived to its fullest. As I’ve little enough in the way of actual wealth, I guess that’ll have to do.

Where was I? That’s right: The Forbidden Trail.

Obviously, describing something as forbidden ain’t exactly the closer it might otherwise be, not around here. Old Saltzpyre will describe anything as “forbidden” or “cursed” if he gets even a wisp of something unsavoury. Once of my biggest ... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - An Embarrasment of Gods
So here’s a funny thing. You know how we went tromping up to the Citadel of Eternity looking for the favour of the gods? (That’s the royal “we”, obviously. Franz Lohner doesn’t go tromping anywhere for nothing or nobody these days. Strictly managerial, I am.) Well, seems that we’ve drawn the eye of rather more than we expected.

Before you go getting all flustered, I’m not talking about those Chaos weirdos. While they’re still afflicting the land around the Citadel with all kinds of curses and malign manifestations, that’s more what you’d call business than personal. So far – touch wood – there’s been no indication whatsoever that the dar... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - A-Reaving We Will Go
So, Kruber was asking about Mannax Grimblood – you know, the fellow whom Grimblood’s Stronghold is named for? – and I’ll be honest, there’s not much to tell.

By that, I don’t mean to say that Grimblood’s not an accomplished chap, far from it. He’s earned a bleak reputation all along the northern coast. Places big or small, they all know him. Or at least, they know of his ships, and his flag of writhing tentacles on a black field. Made a real mess of Erengrad a few years back, and the number of fisher villages Grimblood’s wiped off the face of the map truly beggars belief.

Thing is – and I mean this with all the deference due to our... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - An Unexpected Letter
I find myself with what you might call a conundrum.

One of my lads brought me a letter this morning. Not an unusual occurrence in itself, of course. Folk like writing to me. Others write to me because it’s the only way I’ll sign off on their expenses. And still more drop me the occasional line with interesting titbits out of hope it’ll stop me exposing their gross financial irregularities to the Imperial court. But I digress.

Suffice to say, I wasn’t expecting this particular letter, which purports to be from one Sofia Fuegonasus, our own Sienna Fuegonasus’ twin sister. Hard to tell whether that part’s true. By all accounts, Sofia... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - A Prison of Ice
It’s all go around here again. Saltzpyre’s taken it upon himself to convert one of the outbuildings into a chapel. Spending a good deal of his time in solitude, he is, and doesn’t seem at all inclined to share his thoughts.

Still, I’ve a suspicion he’d have a crack at preaching, were anyone inclined to listen. But my lads have never exactly been what you’d call regular supplicants before the hammer and the comet, and as for the rest of the Five? Well, I don’t see Kerillian seeking out the word of Sigmar, do you? And the last time Bardin joined in with one of those dirges the faithful insist on calling hymns, it caused a bit of a quarrel. Heroes,
Today we are excited to announce that the new support career for Kerillian, the Sister of the Thorn, is available on Steam and Lohner’s Emporium of Wonders! Similar to both the Grail Knight and the Outcast Engineer, the Sister of the Thorn is available with our without the Cosmetic Upgrade.

The Sister of the Thorn is primarily designed to not be a heavy damage dealer, but instead, she is the master of crowd control. The unique career skill ‘Thornwake’ and the passive ability called ‘A ... Read more
Kerillian’s been a bit stranger than usual (these things being relative). Fortunately, Franz Lohner’s pieced together part of the puzzle. Might be he has more questions than answers, but we’ll see what happens.

Rebirth & Regret - Kerillian
So our elf’s not quite what we’ve come to expect from her, is she? In fact, I’m not entirely convinced she’s entirely an elf any longer. Fun times, eh? Just when you think you’ve got someone figured out they have some kind of transformative life experience. Selfish, is what it is.

… Don’t you dare repeat that to her, Kruber. I’ve got enough problems right now as it is …

So yeah, I thought we’d better have a little chat and straighten out what’s going on. Can’t guarantee accuracy, but between me, Olesya and Sienna, we’ve got most of the bases covered.
I’m not sure when all this began, not exactly, but Kerillian’s been in a strange mood for a while. First obvious sign was back during the Night of Masks - no... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - The Changer of Ways Kruber’s back from Parravon. Sienna and Kerillian are back from … wherever. Even Bardin stuck his head out of the workshop this morning. Things are almost back to normal around here, which is nice.

Never realised how much I’ve got used to having our Ubersreik Five around … or maybe it’s more that I’ve never realised how much I’ve relied on the other four to keep Saltzpyre distracted. Tell you what, I’ve learned more about our good Witch Hunter’s existential dread this past week than is healthy. All told, I reckon I liked it better when he was a sneering presence in the corner of the room, waiting for the right moment to denounce My “vile, enduri... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - The Damned Count Saltzpyre’s preparations are proceeding apace, aided largely by a recent gift from one of my old mates back in Bergerac. He’s something of a … freelance acquisitions expert … and the item in question just happened to fall off the back of a wagon on the Grasgar-L’Anguille road after a brief storm of arrows. That happens a lot around my mate.

Anyway, it’s a map – or thereabouts – of the bit of the Chaos Wastes our plucky band will be traversing. Not the most useful of guides, at first blush. Take your eyes off it for a moment, and all the places start shuffling around. My contact said it’s because the Chaos Wastes are always changing, which ain’t half as rea... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - The Citadel of Eternity
Turns out that Saltzpyre’s been thinking about the long game. I mean, we’ve all seen that things are getting worse around here, with no immediate hope of improvement, but Saltzpyre’s actually come up with a suggestion about what we do about it. And I’ll be honest, it’s not the one I expected of him.

According to Saltzpyre, there’s a place up in the grim north called “The Citadel of Eternity”. Never heard of it myself, but he’s adamant there are clues scattered about, if you know what you’re looking for. Supposedly, it’s a place close to the roof of the world, near enough that you can speak with the gods, if that’s your poison. And I’m no... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - Why I'm a Worthless Mayfly Hello diary. I hope you don’t mind me addressing you, an inanimate object, as if you’re some kind of sentient being worthy of conversation? I know it’s unseemly.

Alas, you are my only real friend … probably because you have no eyes with which to see how often I scratch myself in unseemly ways, or ears to hear that strange whistling noise I make with my teeth while I scour my tiny mayfly brain for what passes as a useful thought.

Believe me, you’re much better off for it. If only the others were so blessed.

I come to you with a confession. I have recently realised that I must be much, much, much nicer to Kerillian. Or rather, to ... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - Taal's Horn Keep
Well, we’ve been here a while now, so I guess it’s time I laid down a little bit about the history of our fair base of operations: Taal’s Horn Keep.

First thing you ought to know is that there were originally two Taal’s Horn Keeps – or rather two Taal’s Horns Keeps. You see, folk think this place is named for Taal’s hunting horn. But in the earlier depictions, Taal has two bloody great antlers. That’s where these two keeps got their names. One sitting on either shoulder of the pass. Turns out the baron who ordered their raising was a devout follower of the Hunter God, and wanted every advantage he could get over the greenskins flowing out of th... Read more

Franz Lohner's Chronicle - What do we have here
Hello Franz, darling, it’s Sienna. If you’re reading this, then you already know I’ve found your little diary.

I have to say, I’m very impressed. Quite apart from the content – which is simply chock full of interesting bric-a-brac, if oddly miss-spelled in places – I adore those loving little doodles in the margins. Especially the ones of Saltzpyre. You’ve really captured his scowl – or rather, one of his many scowls. They do say that goblins have a hundred different words for ‘mushroom’. Our dear, gallant Victor is a bit like that, but with bleak facial expressions, don’t you find? Perhaps it’s only having the one eye that does it? Or... Read more
